Zimbabwe emerged the winner of a lucky draw to determine the Africa Cup T20 Pool C semi-finalist after rain washed out two days’ play in East London.
Only two matches were completed on the first day’s play on Friday, when Border and Free State emerged victorious, but the rules state that if four or matches are registered as ‘no result’, all results are null and void.
Frustratingly for Free State, they beat Zimbabwe by seven wickets in their one match. Border were equally efficient in despatching Easterns by eight wickets. There were three draws made, with one team being eliminated each time, which must have made it the draw far more tense than the games played.
Zimbabwe now join Pool A winners North-West in the semifinals, while Pool B, consisting of South Western Districts, Northerns, Kenya and Northern Cape, start their round in Oudtshoorn on Friday.
Pool D, involving Boland, Gauteng, Eastern Province and Kwa-Zulu Natal meet at Boland Park, Paarl from 23-25 Sept . The semifinals and final will be played on 30 Sept and 1 Oct
