Western Province were well on top at stumps on day one of the 4-Day Domestic Series final at the Wanderers.
WP made the most of winning the toss and opting to bowl in overcast conditions.
The Central Gauteng Lions were reduced to 35-5, with Joshua Richards (one), Dominic Hendricks (nine), Zubayr Hamza (nought), Temba Bavuma (nought) and Ryan Rickelton (nine) all going in quick succession.
Pieter Mulder (41) and Delano Potgieter (81) steadied the ship, while useful knocks from tail-enders Codi Yusuf (34) and Malusi Siboto (31*) enabled the hosts to get to 225.
The last three Lions’ wickets added 113 runs.
Dane Paterson starred with the ball for WP, taking 5-31, while Mihlali Mpongwana picked up 4-41.
WP were 49-0 at the close of play, with Edward Moore unbeaten on 35 and Tony de Zorzi on 12.
