Western Province moved to the top of the One-Day Cup log with a 45-run victory against the KZN Dolphins at Kingsmead on Sunday.
The visitors opted to bat first, with half-centuries from David Bedingham (51 off 46 balls), Valentine Kitime (50 off 60), George Linde (55 off 47) and Abdullah Bayoumy (54 off 41) propelling them to 302-8 in 50 overs.
Okuhle Cele (4-55) was the pick of the Dolphins bowlers, dismissing Jonathan Bird (10), Tony de Zorzi (32), Kyle Verreynne (19) and Linde.
Dolphins’ chase was set up nicely by Jon-Jon Smuts (94 off 101 balls) and Marques Ackerman (72 off 82), who put on 143 runs for the first wicket.
But their demise was followed by the regular fall of wickets and the hosts were bowled out for 257 in 46.3 overs.
Dane Paterson (4-38) and Mihlali Mpongwana (3-32) starred with the ball for WP.
At St George’s Park, the EP Warriors claimed their third win of the campaign (to go with two no results) after thumping the KZN Inland Tuskers by eight wickets.
Warriors pace bowler Nealan van Heerden took 5-37 in eight overs as the visitors were skittled for 130 in 34.2 overs.
JP King then struck 68* off 64 balls as the hosts reached their target in just 24 overs.
