Western Province were crowned One-Day Cup champions after a 107-run victory over the North West Dragons at Newlands on Saturday.
After being put into bat, the hosts slumped to 81-4 before centuries from Kyle Verreynne and Mihlali Mpongwanga propelled them to 307-8 in 50 overs.
The pair put on 199 runs for the fifth wicket with Mpongwana scoring 105 off 109 balls (eight fours, three sixes) and Verreynne’s 111 off 103 (eight fours and two sixes).
It was Mpongwana’s maiden List A century, and Verreynne’s second ton in this season’s competition, with the first also coming against the Dragons.
Kerwin Mungroo (3-66) and Migael Pretorius (2-51) were the visitors’ best bowlers.
In reply, the Dragons were bowled out for 200 in 40.4 overs.
Abdullah Bayoumy took 3-24 and Mpongwana 3-32, while Dragons captain Wihan Lubbe provided the only resistance with the bat, scoring 70 off 79 balls.
