Kyle Verreynne batted at No 7 for the Proteas at Lord’s after his grandfather was attended to by paramedics in the stands.
Marco Jansen came in at No 6 when Sarel Erwee was dismissed last Thursday, with Verreynne taking the field 12 balls later when Rassie van der Dussen lost his wicket. The wicketkeeper-batsman made 12 before being caught behind.
According to Cricbuzz, paramedics had been called to the Edrich Stand earlier in the day to attend to Verreynne’s grandfather.
Sheets were held up while that happened and the crowd applauded when he and the paramedics left the ground.
Cricbuzz understands Verreynne’s grandfather is recovering in a London hospital.
