Jason Holder took stunning figures of 5-27 as the West Indies knocked over Sri Lanka for 169 on day one of the opening Test in Antigua this past Sunday.
The visitors were asked to bat first by Kraigg Brathwaite and were hoping to show a response after their hefty defeats in the T20I and ODI series.
But, the Sri Lankans endured further pain as they slumped to a disappointing first-innings effort with the bat.
Lahiru Thirimanne made 70 at the top of the order, while Niroshan Dickwella added 32 in a late attempt to post a decent total.
Holder, though, had other plans and ran through the Sri Lanka lineup with five scalps, with Kemar Roach picking up three of his own.
Braithwaite and John Campbell saw out the remainder of the day with the hosts on 13-0 in their first innings.
