Having been sent in to bat by New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming the Proteas posted a formidable total of 270-5 in their 50 overs thanks to a century by Jonty Rhodes and quick-fired 69 off 34 deliveries by Pollock.
Batting at a strike-rate of 202.94, the South African captain struck six sixes, four of which came off consecutive deliveries in the penultimate over.
In reply New Zealand could only manage 203-8 thanks to great bowling by Pollock, Makhaya Ntini and Allan Donald.
