Faf du Plessis played a captain’s knock in the Texas Super Kings’ nine-wicket win against MI New York in Wednesday’s MLC eliminator playoff.
The 40-year-old former Proteas skipper struck 72 off 47 balls (six fours, three sixes) as Texas, who finished third on the six-team log after the league stage, reached their target of 164 with nine balls remaining.
Du Plessis received good support from SA-born New Zealand batsman Devon Conway (51* off 43).
Earlier, ex-SA U19 star Dewald Brevis was dismissed for a duck as MI New York, the defending champions who finished fourth on the log this year, posted 163-8.
Texas will face the loser of Friday’s qualifier playoff between the table-topping Washington Freedom and second-placed San Francisco Unicorns in the challenger playoff on Saturday, with the final scheduled for Monday.
