Disgraced Australian cricketer David Warner is set to replace Dwayne Bravo as captain of the Winnipeg Hawks in the Global T20 Canada.
Despite Warner being banned for life from any leadership role for Australia after the ball-tampering scandal at Newlands in March, he will replace Bravo, who pulled out of the rest of the tournament.
Former Pakistan fast bowler and current Hawks coach Waqar Younis backed the opening batsman as the leader of his side.
‘I’m sure he’s going to be a good leader when it comes to captaincy,’ Younis was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
‘Warner is a leader. He’s a team man. I’ve seen him in the Indian Premier League and I’ve seen him as a leader. He’s up there, he’s up front, and he likes to give whatever his knowledge is.’
Despite the Hawks topping the table, the 31-year-old has had a terrible start to the tournament and scored just six runs in three innings.
