Shaun von Berg took 4-40 on a day dominated by spin, to help the Titans claim a vital 33-run win against the table-topping Dolphins on Sunday.
Seven wickets went to the Titans’ spinners, with Aiden Markram (2-28) and Tabraiz Shamsi (1-23) chipping in for their side in a rain-affected match. Von Berg was the biggest contributor, taking a four-for to see his side to victory.
The reduced overs saw the Titans score 204-8 (40 overs) and due to more rain, the Dolphins needed 189 in 34 overs.
Von Berg got his first wicket in the 10th over, dismissing the Dolphins’ season top scorer, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, for 19. This came after Markram struck early to reduce the hosts to 7-2 (2.1).
Von Berg continued to break the Dolphins’ momentum and picked up a brace in the 18th over, dismissing Sarel Erwee on 38 and Sibonelo Makhanya for a duck. He topped things off to dismiss Imran Tahir on the last ball of the 30th to complete his four-for.
The 30-year-old picked up the Man of the Match award for his performance, helping his side bundle the Dolphins out for 155 and claiming four vital points for the Johannesburg side.
The Titans, with a game in hand, now sit one point behind the Dolphins (24) who have played nine matches.
