Hardus Viljoen continued to impress in the CSA T20 Challenge with 3-16 in the Lions’ victory over the Warriors on Sunday.
The 27-year-old took 3-16 in a stand-out performance in Durban, which saw his side claim a five-run victory to raise them to third place on the CSA T20 Challenge table.
His quick double in the fifth over, removing dangermen JJ Smuts and Colin Ackermann in three deliveries, was vital to keeping the Warriors down to 35 runs in the power play.
Although Eddie Leie and inform wonder-kid Bjorn Fortuin chipped in with 3-28 and 2-22 respectively, it was Viljoen who stole the headlines.
Viljoen took his final wicket in the 19th over to record his best T20 figures this season, and with the help from Proteas all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius (2-33), who cleaned up the tail, the Lions skittled the second-place Warriors just five runs short of victory.
It’s been a consistent T20 campaign for Viljoen, who has 14 wickets in seven matches at an average of 14.00, as he hunts down Andrew Birch, who sits first on the T20 Challenge bowling list with 17 wickets.
