• Vilas leaves Jozi Stars for Durban Heat

The Durban Heat purchased former Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Dane Vilas in the second round of Tuesday’s player draft for the 2019 Mzansi Super League.

Vilas captained the Jozi Stars through a triumphant 2018 MSL campaign.

England all-rounder Ravi Bopara also joined the Heat.

Last month, the Heat appointed former Proteas batsman Gary Kirsten head coach.

They have retained seamer Kyle Abbott, batsmen Khaya Zondo, Sarel Erwee and David Miller and spinner Keshav Maharaj.

The Heat’s international marquee player is England batsman Alex Hales. Their local marquee player is all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo.

‘I don’t know Alex, but I am looking forward to getting to know him,’ said Miller.

‘As you do in these competitions all around the globe, you get to know people from all over the world on a personal level.

‘I rate him highly as a player and so I am looking forward to seeing how he works, how he thinks about the game and how he prepares for each game.’

The Durban franchise finished in last position in the 2018’s inaugural MSL, after three wins, six defeats and one no-result.

Squad: Andile Phehlukwayo, Alex Hales (England), David Miller (retained player), Dane Vilas, Ravi Bopara (England), Keshav Maharaj (retained player), Kyle Abbott (retained player), Khaya Zondo (retained player), Marco Jansen, Daryn Dupavillon, Sarel Erwee (retained player), Malusi Siboto, Prenelan Subrayen, Wihan Lubbe, Shaun von Berg.
