Murali Vijay and Wriddhiman Saha combined for a 116-run second-wicket stand as the Kings XI Punjab claimed a seven-wicket win over the Mumbai Indians on Friday.
Hashim Amla failed again in his third match for the Kings XI as he was trapped lbw without scoring off Tim Southee in the first over of their run chase.
Vijay, who finished unbeaten on 54 from 52 balls with five fours and one six, and Saha then came together and spent 14 overs chipping away at the 125-run target. Both batsman reached their half-centuries before Saha, who scored 56 from 40 balls with six fours and one six, dragged one onto his stumps in the 16th over off Mitchell McClenaghan.
McClenagahn then took the wicket of Glenn Maxwell (0) with his next legitimate delivery. But it was all too little too late as Vijay and Gurkeerat Singh Mann eased the Kings XI home with three overs to spare.
Earlier in the match, the Mumbai Indians, who elected to bat first, only managed a measly 124-9 from their 20 overs. Unmukt Chand and Ambati Rayutu both departed without scoring as the Kings XI opening bowling pair of Sandeep and Mohit Sharma took a wicket each as the Mumbai Indians found themselves at 8-2 in the third over.
Rohit Sharma was the next wicket to fall, bowled by Axar Patel for 15 runs from 24 balls, having hit one four. The wickets kept tumbling as Man of the Match Marcus Stoinis claimed the wickets of Nitish Rana (25) and Jos Butler (9) as Mumbai found themselves struggling at 61-5 after 13.3 overs.
Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya then put together a 42-run stand for the sixth wicket before both batsmen fell to Stoinis off consecutive balls in the 17th over with the score on 103-7. Mumbai managed 21 runs from their final three overs, but not without losing two more wickets.
