• Video and facts: Mitchell van Buuren’s limited-overs 200

Gauteng batsman Mitchell van Buuren struck a record-breaking 200 against Western Province in Sunday 10 February 2019’s CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge.

    • 10 sixes later…

Van Buuren slayed an opposition attack spearheaded by former South Africa U19 fast bowlers Justin Dill and Thando Ntini. His stay spanned 159 deliveries and featured 16 fours and 10 sixes at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

    • Four months since…

The double century was only the 28th in the history of List A cricket – and the first this year. The last to strike a List A double-century was India’s Karn Kaushal for Uttarakhand against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in October 2018.

    • Like Pollock, like Van Buuren…

Van Buuren is the third South African to welcome a List A double ton, after Eastern Province’s Graeme Pollock gathered 222 not out against Border in East London in 1974 – and Natal’s Alan Barrow managed 202 not out against a South African XI in Durban in 1975.

    • Five’s a crowd…

Western Province are the fifth South African team to concede a List A double ton, after Border and the South African XI at the hands of Pollock and Barrow respectively. India’s Shikhar Dhawan and Australia’s Phil Hughes achieved the feat against South Africa A – and Indian Sachin Tendulkar achieved this against the Proteas.

    • No touching Brown…

The highest individual List A score is the 268 collected by Surrey’s Ali Brown against Glamorgan in 2002’s Gloucester Trophy. Brown’s 30-four, 12-six epic at The Oval in London came against an opposition attack led by Australian fast bowler Michael Kasprowicz.
