The first ODI between the Proteas and Netherlands in Centurion on Friday was abandoned due to rain just two overs into the latter’s run chase.
The Proteas posted 277-8 from their 50 overs, with Kyle Verreynne scoring a career-best 95 off 112 balls before being dismissed by a full toss which he hit straight to a boundary fielder.
Verreynne and Zubayr Hamza (56 off 79 balls) produced a 119-run stand for the third wicket.
The Proteas’ innings finished with a flourish thanks to Andile Phehlukwayo, who smashed six sixes during his knock of 48 off 22 balls.
Fred Klaassen, Vivian Kingma and Brandon Glover took two wickets each for the visitors.
The Netherlands were 11-0 after two overs when heavy showers and lightning forced the players off the field.
After two more hours of downpour, the match was abandoned.
The remaining two matches of the series are in doubt due to Covid-19 fears.
