The uncapped Tom Banton, Pat Brown, Lewis Gregory, Saqib Mahmood and Matt Parkinson have been named in England’s squad for the November T20I series against New Zealand.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Banton and seamer Brown featured for Somerset and Worcestershire in the recent T20 Blast. All-rounder Gregory also played for Somerset, while leg-spinner Parkinson and fast bowler Mahmood represented Lancashire.
‘National selector Ed Smith basically said that they were really impressed with my skills, but also my manner, in terms of how I’ve dealt with the pressure in certain situations,’ Brown told ESPNcricinfo.
‘And being in control, not rushing things, making sure I do what I want to do, and having real clarity in what I’m doing. He said that was impressive, and that it gives off a good image of being in control.
‘I’ve potentially got a Big Bash League deal lined up, which is close to getting pushed over the line. Before this news, I was looking at the Bangladesh Premier League or Pakistan Super League, but I’m not sure what my schedule will look like now. I’ll wait and see.’
Dawid Malan, who has not played T20I cricket since February 2018, has been recalled. Mahmood and Parkinson have also been named in the squad for November’s Test series against New Zealand.
