Left-arm spinner Sean Whitehead took five wickets for six runs as South Africa beat Fiji by 282 runs in a warm-up match ahead of the U19 World Cup.
Earlier, captain Tony de Zorzi eased in with an unbeaten 100 in the friendly match in Bangladesh on Friday. De Zorzi worked hard, taking only seven fours in the innings off 89 balls, leading the way to a score of 337-7 and victory by 282 runs against a side playing in their first World Cup.
He received good support from Kyle Verryenne (64 off 68, 7×4) and Rivaldo Moonsamy (56 off 51, 8×4) until both fell to the medium pace of Tadulala Veitacini, who ended with 4-59.
The former Boland Landbou quick Luke Philander struck early to dismiss the first three batsmen for just 19 runs, at which point Free State’s Sean Whitehead stepped up to close out the match, bowling out the Islanders for just 50 runs in 30.4 overs, during which no batsman reached double figures, at an overall run rate of 1.6.
