Easterns leg spinner Parth Patel recorded the best-ever bowling figures at the U19 Khaya Majola Week when he ripped Northern Cape’s batting line-up apart on Sunday.
Patel grabbed seven wickets for only 15 runs in his 10 overs at the Salem Cricket Ground just outside Makhanda. This included a hat-trick as he removed Luan de la Rey (one), Kaiden van Wyk (nought) and Oratile Jubeni (nought).
The previous record for the best bowling figures at the week belonged to Daryn du Pavillon (KwaZulu-Natal Inland) who took 7-18 against North West in Potchefstroom in 2012.
Three batsmen – Ivan Lockem (KZN Inland), Blake Simpson (KwaZulu-Natal) and Tre Gilbert (Border) – scored centuries on the second day of the tournament.
Simpson produced an all-round performance in a 22-run victory over Western Province. He scored 103 to help his side post 207 before being the pick of their bowling attack with figures of 2-17.
Lockem (100) partnered with Murray Baker (78) to help KZN Inland reach 262-7 in their 50 overs against Boland. The team from the Winelands suffered their second defeat as only Josh Jordaan (45) and Riley Norton (33*) managed to provide some resistance with the bat.
Border’s captain Gilbert (107) faced 83 deliveries in his innings, hitting 19 boundaries as his side smashed Kei by 252 runs. He received some valuable support from Wayden Plaatjies (76*).
Border’s Amahle Masiko took 5-18 to help bowl out Kei for 72.
The Central Gauteng Lions thrashed Free State by 10 wickets with SA U19 fast bowler Esosa Aihevba taking 6-26. Tshepo Stafa (47*) and Thebe Gazide (23*) reached the target in the 11th over.
The Northerns Titans beat hosts Eastern Province by seven wickets. Steve Stolk scored 69 off 40 deliveries and Jorich van Schalkwyk 53*.
Luke Poisson took 4-29 with the ball and scored 65* with the bat as Mpumalanga beat North West by four wickets.
Enathi Kitshini also produced an all-round performance to help the Garden Route Badgers to a 122-run victory over Limpopo. He top-scored with 86, with Zane Greyling (81) and Zander Nel (58) also scoring half-centuries, and then grabbed four wickets for the cost of 37 runs.
