Proteas cricketers Sinethemba Qeshile and Gihahn Cloete have been included in Border’s squad for this month’s Provincial T20 Cup.
Cloete and Qeshile have played two T20Is each. The former debuted against Zimbabwe in October last year and the latter versus Sri Lanka in March 2019.
Former Proteas fast bowler Mfuneko Ngam is their coach. Ngam played three Tests for South Africa in 2000 and 2001, and was appointed Border’s head coach last month.
‘We look forward to welcoming Mfuneko back to our region and we are confident that he will add much value to our young cricketers and impart his thorough knowledge to the lives of our aspiring Border cricketers,’ Border Cricket chief executive officer Thando Booi said at the time.
Warriors and Cape Town Blitz seamer Sisanda Magala has also been included in Border’s squad. Magala was bought by the Blitz for R750,000 in round three of last week’s player draft for the 2019 Mzansi Super League.
The tournament used to be called the Africa T20 Cup. Gauteng, who were captained by Proteas batsman Temba Bavuma last year, are the reigning champions after beating Border in the final.
Former Dolphins and Lions fast bowler Craig Alexander, meanwhile, has been named in Boland’s squad.
The squad also features Cape Cobras trio Ferisco Adams, Simon Khomari and Lizaad Williams and will be coached by former Proteas seamer Henry Williams.
