Yorkshire seamer Matthew Fisher was given a shock debut by England on the morning of Wednesday’s second Test against the West Indies in Barbados.
England named their side on the eve of the match, with fellow quick Saqib Mahmood included in a Test side for the first time after fast bowler Mark Wood was ruled out with an elbow injury suffered during the drawn series opener in Antigua.
But the tourists will now have two debutants in a pace attack led by Chris Woakes, with Craig Overton feeling unwell overnight ahead of the second game of a three-match series.
England had already decided against risking Ollie Robinson at the Kensington Oval after the seamer was ruled out of the first Test with back spasms.
Joe Root’s side arrived in the Caribbean without record wicket-takers James Anderson and Stuart Broad, who were both controversially dropped for the tour.
Fisher (24) has yet to play senior international cricket whereas Mahmood (25) has played seven ODIs and 12 T20Is since 2019.
