Quinton de Kock scored 43 off 34 balls as the Northerns Titans beat the Western Province Blitz by seven wickets at St George’s Park on Saturday.
WP’s first defeat of the tournament reduced their log lead over the Titans to just one point with one round of league-stage matches remaining. Both teams have secured their place in the semi-finals.
Province recovered from a poor start to post 140-5 in their 20 overs.
They were 12-2 after 3.5 overs after losing openers Richard Levi (nought) and Jonathan Bird (eight) cheaply, but an 85-run partnership between Tony de Zorzi (45 off 38 balls) and Dane Vilas (60* off 48) got them back on track.
Vilas also received good support from Wayne Parnell, who made 17 off 13.
Lizaad Williams was the Titans’ most successful bowler, taking 2-21 in his four overs.
The Titans made an excellent start to their run chase, scoring 79 in 10 overs before Kyle Simmonds trapped De Kock lbw.
Captain Theunis de Bruyn (37 off 29) lost his wicket soon after, but Dewald Brevis (26 off 20) and Heinrich Klaasen (33* off 25) ensured the Titans reached the target with three balls to spare.
