Jiveshan Pillay scored 61 as the Northerns Titans beat the Central Gauteng Lions by 71 runs in the T20 Challenge in Potchefstroom on Wednesday.
Pilay, who hit six fours and three sixes in his 44-ball knock, put on 75 for the first wicket with 19-year-old Dewald Brevis (30 off 17) before Cameron Delport had the latter caught.
Pilay was trapped lbw by Tetelo Maphakaoff off the first ball of the 13th over, with the total on 113.
Captain Sibonelo Makhanya (23 off 17), Theunis de Bruyn (22 off 12) and Corbin Bosch (18 off 15) then all chipped in to get the Titans to 190-6.
In reply, the Lions were reduced to 5-3 – with Ryan Rickelton (two), Delport (three) and Dominic Hendricks (nought) all going in quick succession – and never recovered.
Evan Jones top-scored with 33 off 30 balls, while Junior Dala (2-30), Ayabulela Gqamane (2-17) and Brevis (2-19) all picked up a couple of wickets.
