Theunis de Bruyn’s 147 on day three against the Cobras is our early pick for Play of the Day.
De Bruyn’s move to the Titans has not hampered his run-scoring form. The former Knights captain has been crucial to keeping his side in the game against the Cobras in their third 4-Day Franchise Series clash of the season.
The Titans found themselves heading towards similar trouble in their second innings to what they endured in the first innings, when they were skittled for 122. In their second dig they were 70-3 and still way behind being able to force the Cobras to bat again before a ton from De Bruyn saw them end day two with 301-5 on the board, offering them an 86-run lead.
De Bruyn continued this morning where he left off at the end of day two and managed to add 20 runs to the lead before he lost his wicket to Dane Paterson after a crucial 211-ball 147 that included 24 fours.
His innings set the platform for Henry Davids to marshall the tail in order for the Titans to add to the 167-run lead they took into lunch. They managed to take the lead to 203 after being bowled out for 418.
This was De Bruyn’s 12th first-class century as he looks to keep himself in contention for a secure spot in the Proteas Test side.
