Seamer Rusty Theron became the sixth player to represent South Africa and a second country in international cricket in Florida on Friday.
Theron, who played played four ODIs and nine T20Is for the Proteas between 2010 and 2012, debuted for the United States of America in a key World Cup League 2 ODI against Papua New Guinea.
The 34-year-old recently met the three-year residency threshold under the International Cricket Council’s eligibility requirements. He also played for the Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers and Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League – and Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League.
The late Frank Hearne played Test match cricket for South Africa and England in the late 1800s. Former Wisden Cricketer of the Year Frank Mitchell also played for South Africa and England in the early 1900s.
Spinner John Traicos played three Tests for South Africa against Australia in 1970. More than 20 years later, he collected four more Tests for Zimbabwe against India and New Zealand.
More than half former Proteas captain Kepler Wessels’ 40 Tests were for Australia. He also played 55 ODIs for South Africa and 54 for the Aussies.
Most recently, all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe has played ODI and T20I cricket for South Africa and the Netherlands.
