Imran Tahir and Hardus Viljoen took a wicket apiece as Derbyshire beat Worcestershire by seven wickets in the T20 Blast.
Derbyshire vs Worcestershire
Derbyshire fielded first, seeking a win that would take them second on the standings. Part-time spinner Wayne Madsen gave the visitors the perfect start when he had Daryl Mitchell caught for three off the final ball of the opening over.
Countryman Hardus Viljoen put an end to a second-wicket blitz by Brett D’Oliviera and Joe Clarke in which 53 runs were scored in four overs, by bowling Clarke for 42.
A second strike from Madsen left the hosts on 83-3 midway through the 10th over, the innings delicately poised. Ben Cox and Mitchell Santer led their team into three figures before Imran Tahir took his first, having Santer caught behind by Daryn Smit.
Tahir’s wicket was where the Saffas’ success with the ball ended for the day, Worcestershire posting 186-5. Madsen was the pick of the South African bowlers, finishing with 2-20, while Tahir took 1-27 and Viljoen 1-37.
Madsen was not entirely finished, however, striking an unbeaten 35-ball 58, which included nine fours to help Derbyshire register their third win of the campaign.
Leicestershire vs Durham
Elsewhere, Cameron Delport‘s 29 (five fours) at the top of the Leicestershire innings laid the foundation for a 144-8 total. Colin Ackermann and Matthew Pillans returned figures of 2-22 and 1-26 respectively as the hosts recorded an unlikely 27-run victory.
