Imran Tahir captured 5-110 on his Derbyshire debut in the County Championship.
The nomadic Tahir added another county side to his almost infinite list of clubs on Monday when he made his first appearance for Derbyshire, and it was the dream start for him, but it’s been in a match that sees his side needing to pull out all the stops on day four.
Tahir linked up with his new side after the conclusion of South Africa’s Champions Trophy campaign, and the 38-year-old, who’s played for seven counties, including the opponents Durham, was looking to help his side win back-to-back victories, this after Durham’s victory against Glamorgan last week was their first for almost two years.
He did as well as he could with 5-110 as Durham were bowled out for 301. The only problem is that Derbyshire were then bowled out for 214, leaving Durham with 282 for victory. They closed day three on 36-0, which then steadied to 91.
Tahir, currently the No 2 ODI bowler in the world, took 57 wickets for the Proteas in 20 Tests, though he’s unlikely to add to a tally that last saw him play against India in December 2015. He will hold the key for Derbyshire on day four as they look to lift themselves off the bottom of the standings.
