The Gujurat Lions’ 100% record in IPL 2016 came to an emphatic end as the Sunrisers Hyderabad beat them by 10 wickets in Rajkot on Thursday.
Dale Steyn failed to make an impact in his first game of the season, conceding 17 from his two overs against his old franchise.
The Lions went into this game with three consecutive victories, but if there was ever a sign that it wasn’t going to be their night, it was when their first wicket fell: Aaron Finch, who had picked up the Man of the Match award in all three of those victories, fell for a duck.
OnlyRaina managed to score more than 20. He ended up going on a solo mission with a 51-ball 75, as his side scrambled to 135-8, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar picking up 4-29 and Mustafizur Rahman giving away just 19 runs in his four overs.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad, looking for their second victory in their fourth match of the tournament, peeled off the runs with ease, thanks to David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan.
The pair brought up a 100-run stand for the fourth time in their IPL career together, an incredible stat if you consider that the next best by an opening pair is twice. Warner, who smashed 90 in their victory over the Mumbai Indians, racked up 74 with his partner scoring 53, to complete the dominant victory.
