Pat Cummins has replaced Aiden Markram as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad for this year’s IPL.
While Markram has led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to back-to-back SA20 titles, his Hyderabad team finished last in the 2023 IPL after four wins from 14 matches.
With Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, Glenn Phillips, Marco Jansen and Cummins all in the Sunrisers squad, and only four foreigners allowed in a playing XI, Markram could spend some time on the bench this season.
Last year, the Proteas batsman scored 248 runs in 13 IPL matches at an average of 22.54 and a strike rate of 125.88.
Cummins captained Australia to last year’s ODI World Cup title, but his record as a bowler is less impressive in the T20 format.
