Kagiso Rabada shone, while Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis got out of the gates quickly to start the new IPL season.
Rabada showed up well on Sunday for the Delhi Capitals, who beat King XI Punjab via a Super Over. Rabada followed a solid return of 2-28 in normal play, then took two wickets in the Super Over to help set up a comfortable chase of just three runs.
‘There’ll always be nerves for me no matter how long I play,’ he said in the post-match interview. ‘Luckily it came off today. [Super Over thought process] It just depends what works for me on the day and just getting a feel for what might work as well. Today it was just mixing the lengths up and it worked. There’s decent bounce in this wicket, and the boundaries are quite big. So it’ll take a bit to clear it. So I backed myself.’
On Saturday De Kock got his Mumbai Indians off to an explosive start, scoring 33 off just 20 balls in a total of 162. However, his Proteas’ team-mate Faf du Plessis outshone him, scoring an unbeaten 58 as the Chennai Super Kings chased down the score with five wickets and four balls remaining.
On Monday AB de Villiers and Chris Morris will be in action for the Royal Challengers against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
