ECB director Andrew Strauss will not return to the Ashes tour after his wife was diagnosed with cancer. The ex-England captain was scheduled to travel with the squad ahead of the fourth Test and was forced to miss the third Test in Perth to be by his wife’s side.
Strauss’ wife, Ruth, was diagnosed with cancer and the ECB confirmed Strauss’ absence from the tour.
‘Andrew Strauss, Director of England cricket, will not return to The Ashes this winter,’ said an ECB spokesperson to Sky Sports. ‘
His wife, Ruth, has been diagnosed with cancer and is going through a series of medical tests before Christmas.
His family needs Andrew’s full support at this time.’ Kevin Pietersen took to Twitter to voice his support for his fellow South African-born former teammate.
Here ends ANY tension I may have with Andrew Strauss. What he’s going through with his family puts life into perspective. Thinking of the Strauss family! ????

Straus has been director of England cricket since May 2015, taking on the management role nearly three years after ending his playing career after 100 Test appearances.
