Dale Steyn says Proteas fast bowler Marco Jansen should have been selected for the second Test against the West Indies at the Wanderers.
Proteas coach Shukri Conrad has made four changes to the XI that beat the West Indies by 87 runs in Centurion.
Ryan Rickelton replaces Keegan Petersen in the middle order, Wiaan Mulder comes in for spin bowling all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy at No 7, while spinners Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer replace fast bowlers Anrich Nortje (groin injury) and Jansen.
Conrad said Jansen was being “rested”, a decision Steyn disagreed with on Twitter.
“Wouldn’t have left Jansen out,” said the former Proteas quick, who worked with Jansen as the Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s bowling coach in the SA20. “You can not build a solid Test team or become a better Test player if you’re gana just rest your best players.
“It’s only a TWO match Test series. Two.
“Sorry, that’s just silly.”
After this match, the Proteas will not play Test cricket again until December – a two-Test home series against India.
