Former Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn says Kwena Maphaka will be “absolutely fine” after a disappointing IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians.
The 17-year-old quick conceded 66 runs in his four overs as the Sunrisers Hyderabad racked up 277-3 – the highest-ever total in the IPL.
During Wednesday’s match, Steyn posted on X: “Maphaka realizing the difference between U19 and the PRO league. Baptism of fire.”

After being criticised on social media for not supporting the youngster, Steyn posted on Thursday: “I woke up feeling for Kwena Maphaka today, but I know he’s surrounded by some amazing people at MI and he’s gana be absolutely fine.
“His first experience, regardless of result or performance, should still be the most amazing cricket experience he’s ever had.
“At just 17, it’s only upwards from here. Well done young man.”
