The Melbourne Stars are reportedly on the brink of signing Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn for the 2019 Big Bash League.
According to The Age, the Stars are pursuing Steyn’s recruitment to replace West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.
The 36-year-old Steyn retired from Test cricket earlier this year, but is still available for ODI and T20I selection.
He has played for the Deccan Chargers, Gujarat Lions, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League – and Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League.
Later this year, the prolific right-armer will represent the Cape Town Blitz in the second edition of South Africa’s Mzansi Super League.
The Age has also linked Proteas captain Faf du Plessis to a short-term deal with the Perth Scorchers. Du Plessis has retained the Test captaincy, but won’t lead the Proteas during this month’s three T20Is against India.
He played two matches for Kent in the England and Wales Cricket Board’s T20 Blast recently and struck 60 and 32 against Gloucestershire and Essex, respectively.
Meanwhile, Proteas leg-spinner Imran Tahir will join the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the remainder of the 2019 CPL.
Tahir has replaced Pakistan Shahdab Khan in the Warriors squad. The South African has represented the Guyana franchise previously.
