Dale Steyn says Dewald Brevis is “too good to just be playing domestic cricket”.
The former Proteas fast bowler made the comment on X after watching One-Day Cup highlights.
Brevis is the top run-scorer in the domestic tournament with 362 in six innings at an average of 72.40 and a strike rate of 157.39.
After scoring just three in his first match, the 21-year-old has struck 102, 42, 75, 57 and 83* to help the Northerns Titans qualify for the playoffs.
Brevis also made his mark in this year’s SA20, scoring 291 runs in 12 matches for eventual champions MI Cape Town at an average of 48.50 and a strike rate of 184.17.
“I’m not sure how he fits into the Proteas set up, but he deserves a mention,” Steyn added. “He CAN play!”
The former SA U19 star made his senior Proteas debut in a T20I home series against Australia in August 2023, scoring five and nought, and has not worn the green and gold since.
