South Africa will resume their first innings with their two best batsmen at the crease on day three of the deciding Test, reports Jon Cardinelli at Newlands.
Rain brought a premature end to play on day two, and one over was lost. It’s for this reason that day three will commence at 10:28, two minutes ahead of the initially scheduled time.
Conditions at Newlands are ideal for batting. There are no demons in this pitch, and it’s a beautiful, sunny day in Cape Town.
There is a strong northerly wind blowing, but no rain is forecast for today. The bad news is that the weather is expected to move in on day four. Both teams will need to adjust their tactics if any play is lost due to rain.
The Proteas are currently in a strong position, with their two best batsmen at the crease. Hashim Amla has already scored a half century, while AB de Villiers has toiled hard for his 32 not out.
