The eight teams playing in the St David’s Time Cricket Festival are halfway through their second matches, and results look possible in all of them.
There were no centuries scored on the day, but there were nine half-centuries, and with St Stithians College’s Cameron Rowe unbeaten on 82 overnight, there is a good chance that he will notch up his second ton of the week, following his 156 against Clifton in the opening round of fixtures.
Two other batsmen got into the 80s on the day, Henre Koekemoer scoring 84 not out for St Andrew’s against St Stithians, while the CSA Tap team’s Tahir Isaacs made 82 against the hosts.
The Tap team sprung the surprise of the day when they bowled St David’s out for 60. The much-vaunted St David’s top order failed for once, which spread panic down the ranks as they were bundled out in just 31 overs.
The development team looked good in reply, finishing on 218-9, leaving St David’s the onerous task of having to bat really well on Sunday to save the game.
Clifton picked themselves up after their mauling at the hands of St Stithians in their first outing. They made 226 on Saturday against KES and, with the Joburg side five runs behind with four more overs to face tomorrow, things are well balanced in the match.
St Stithians are on 154 without loss overnight, chasing the St Andrew’s first innings score of 273. Their centurions from game one, Rowe and Cameron Shekelton, are both still at the crease on 82 and 68 not out respectively. With 22 overs remaining in their innings, a really big score is on the cards.
Maritzburg College made 240-9 in their first innings and they have St Alban’s in trouble on 121-7.
