Tillakaratne Dilshan scored an unbeaten 83 off 56 balls to guide Sri Lanka to a comfortable six-wicket win against Afghanistan on Thursday.
Defending a total 153 was always going to be a difficult talk for the Afghanistan bowlers and so it proved as Sri Lanka reached 155-4 in 18.5 overs.
Dilshan was the catalyst at the top of the order and as long as he stayed in, things were under control. He was well supported by Angelo Mathews (21 not out) towards the end to get their campaign off to a solid start.
Captain Asghar Stanikzai (62 off 47) top-scored for Afghanistan but had little support from the rest of the batting line-upĀ as Samiullah Shenwari (31) was the only other batsmen to score more than 20 runs.
Thisara Perera took 3-33 in his four overs.
