Former South Africa U19 all-rounder Dean Foxcroft has been named in New Zealand’s Central Districts squad for this week’s Ford Trophy one-day fixture against Northern Districts at the Saxton Oval in Nelson.
Foxcroft’s former South Africa U19 teammate Willem Ludik has also been included in the 12-man squad, which will be captained by Test seamer Doug Bracewell.
The hard-hitting Foxcroft struck a century against New Zealand in the 11th-place playoff of 2016’s U19 World Cup in Bangladesh. The Man of the Match performance, which spanned 137 deliveries and featured 13 fours and a six, carried the South Africans to a comfortable 138-run victory.
He has since forged a burgeoning career in New Zealand.
Foxcroft has been in solid early season form, coming off an unbeaten century off just 53 balls in a six-wicket Howell Cup win for Hawke’s Bay over Bay of Plenty ‘followed by an unbeaten 104 for Taradale in Hawke’s Bay’s club premiership at the weekend – his second century for the club this season,’ read a media release from the Central Districts Cricket Association.
Ludik and Foxcroft are among a string of ex-South Africa U19 cricketers playing in New Zealand. Canterbury batsman Chad Bowes and Wellington seamer Travis Muller are there, too.
