Jon-Jon Smuts took two four-fors against the Cobras in a determined attempt to pull a victory out of the hat in round two of the Sunfoil Series.
The Warriors captain put in a Man of the Match all-round display, scoring 49 in the Warriors’ first innings charge to 452-6d, before leading his side with the ball, by picking up 4-38. The Cobras were reduced to 387-8 and bravely declared, despite trailing by 65.
Smuts’ top order were rattled, however, in their second innings, losing five wickets as they scraped past the 100-run mark. But a lone-wolf fight from their captain brought up a sturdy 54 to take the lead to 251 before declaring on the final day.
With the belief that they could bowl out the Cobras in two sessions, the Warriors’ plan almost came off.
Spin was crucial in hassling the Cobras, as Smuts and Thabraiz Shamsi rocked the visitors’ top six.

Smuts finished on 4-39, but his side failed to bowl out the Cobras, and the match was drawn with the Cobras on 131-6.
The 29-year-old all-rounder has had a brilliant start to his campaign and sits top of the wickets tally with 10 scalps, and top of the run-scorers list with 278.
