Former Australia skipper Steve Smith has withdrawn from the rest of the 2018 CPL due to an abdominal strain.
Barbados Tridents captain Jason Holder revealed Smith’s injury before the clash with St Lucia Stars at the Kensington Oval on Sunday. The Stars won the match to move off the bottom of the table, leaving the Tridents in their wake.
Tridents head coach Robin Singh confirmed that Smith has returned to Australia to seek treatment for the injury.
Smith’s departure is unlikely to leave a massive hole in the Tridents side – he has scored just 185 runs in seven innings, along with taking three wickets.
He did pick up the Man of the Match award in one of his side’s two wins during the league season to date when he scored 63 and returned 2-19 against the Jamaica Tallawahs.
