The Benoni Zalmi have selected former Proteas captain Graeme Smith as their head coach for the T20 Global League.
Franchise owner Javed Afridi announced Smith’s appointment on Monday as well as his assistant, Lions head coach, Geoffrey Toyana.
The 36-year-old retired from international cricket in 2014, after the Proteas’ final Test against Australia.
This will be his first role as coach in competitive cricket, after spending a few years as a pundit.
Smith and Toyana’s first task will be to sign up reinforcements at the player draft this weekend, from a pool of over 400 players.
At the Durban-franchise, the Qalandars has appointed Paddy Upton as their head coach and Aaqib Javed as their bowling coach.
The Stellenbosch Monarchs has appointed Stephen Fleming as their head coach, with ex Proteas head coach Eric Simons named as his assistant.
