Upul Tharanga will miss the remainder of Sri Lanka’s group stage of the Champions Trophy after being handed a two-match suspension for a slow over rate.
Tharanga was standing in for the injured Angelo Matthews as skipper against the Proteas. Sri Lanka were terribly slow in getting through their overs, taking more than 40 minutes than the allocated time to complete their fifty overs.
Tharanga will miss matches against Pakistan and India, but will be available should Sri Lanka progress to the semi-finals. No hearing was necessary, as Tharanga pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sri Lanka next face India on Thursday.
