Proteas spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has aimed to clarify Fakhar Zaman’s controversial run-out incident at the Wanderers this past Sunday.
Wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock pointed towards the bowler’s end while Zaman was running back for a second run, only to slow down, thinking the incoming throw from Aiden Markram was heading the other way.
Instead, Zaman found himself short of his ground as the ball came in to the wicketkeeper’s end, with many since suggesting De Kock tried to trick the Pakistan opener.
But, Shamsi, who endured a testing time with the ball during the Pink ODI, on Monday shared his take on the event on Twitter.
According to the left-armer, De Kock was signalling to a Proteas fielder to serve as backup at the non-striker’s end in case the throw came to the bowler.
‘Just 2 clarify QDK was NOT speaking 2 or pointing at the batsman, he was asking a fielder to back up at the non strikers end Not Quinnys fault the batman turned around 2 see instead of completing the run safely which he should have done Stop the hate n Leave QDK alone,’ Shamsi commented.
The wicket of Zaman proved deciding for the Proteas, who levelled the ODI series in the process with a 17-run win.
‘So it’s not funny that the batsman stopped running instead of completing the run? Lets not take the attention away from a great innings that he played and give him credit for that The batman’s job in that instance was to complete the run that all… As simple as that,’ added Shamsi.
