India’s tour of South Africa is in doubt after a scheduling conflict with a potential India-Sri Lanka series came to light.
Cricket South Africa had been keen to host India for a Boxing Day Test match, though this will clash with a proposed Sri Lanka tour of India.
Sri Lanka have agreed to tour India for three Tests, five ODIs and a T20I in November.
The Sri Lanka series was originally slated for February 2018, but has had to be moved to accommodate the Independence Cup.
‘The Sri Lanka tour to India has been brought forward from February next year because we are hosting the tri-nation Independence Cup during that period,’ Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva told ESPNCricinfo.
‘Sri Lanka was due to tour India from February end to the first week of April next year, and the dates would have clashed with the Independence Cup. That’s why we requested the Indian board for a change to bring the tour forward and they have agreed.’
India are currently on a tour of Sri Lanka that consists of three Tests, five ODIs and a T20I. After the tour’s conclusion on 6 September, Sri Lanka will head to the UAE to play Pakistan, before travelling to India in November.
