Morne Morkel blasted through the Yorkshire line-up to set a winning position for Surrey on day three of their County Championship at Scarborough.
He took 5-39 off 16 overs, including England players Adam Lyth and Gary Ballance, to help restrict Yorkshire to 152, presenting Surrey with a victory target of 228. At the close, they were 89-0.
Morkel will walk away with seven wickets in the match after Jade Derbach took the leading role in the first innings, taking 4-104.
Dane Vilas’ brilliant 134 rescued Lancashire as they fought their way to 411, just 40 behind Hampshire first effort of 451. He and local Lancs lads Alex Davies (115) and Jordan Clark (82) were the only batsmen to withstand the Hants attack; no other passed 28. Kyle Abbott took 3-89 off 20 overs and Gareth Berg 2-78. Vilas’s hundred came off 216 balls and included 20 fours.
Stumps were drawn with Hampshire, for whom Rilee Rossouw scored 120 in the first innings, on 66-2, a lead of 106.
Ricardo Vasconcelos made another valuable fifty for Northants’ cause as they ran up 406-9 declared, offering Glamorgan a victory target of 434. Following his 56 in the first innings, the former SA U19 wicketkeeper-batsman added 79 off 139 balls in the second innings. Richard Levi, who hammered 75 first time around, fell for 20.
Hardus Viljoen and Duanne Olivier took nine wickets between them in a losing cause as Derbyshire went down by six wickets to Leicestershire. They took the four wickets to fall in the second innings, but the target of 133 was not really enough to bowl at. Colin Ackermann‘s 58, part of a stand of 97 for the second wicket with Paul Horton (48) was enough to see Leicestershire through.
It was Olivier’s last game for the county, having been signed only for the first half of the season. He ended with 31 Championship wickets and 13 One-Day Cup strikes.
