The Sydney Sixers of Marizanne Kapp and Dane van Niekerk celebrated a double-header, climbing to fifth on the Women’s Big Bash log.
The Sixers’ top order have responded with good performances as they beat Sydney Thunder by 33 runs, and then beat Hobart Hurricanes by seven wickets. They now have three wins from six matches.
But that has limited the two Saffas’ batting time. Kapp did not bat in either match, and Van Niekerk faced only one ball in the first match.
But she cracked 17 off 16, with two fours, to see the Sixers over the line against the Hurricanes. That followed a great spell with the ball, in which the Proteas women’s captain took 2-16 off three overs. She and Australian Sarah Aley shared the first five wickets to fall, while Kapp weighed in with the sixth, finishing with 1-18, to help restrict the Hurricanes to 106-8.
Against the Thunder, Kapp took 2-29 off her four overs, with Van Niekerk taking 1-25.
