David Miller and Rilee Roussouw produced the standout performances from South Africans playing abroad over the weekend.
Miller’s unbeaten 32 off 19 steered the Gujarat Titans to their maiden IPL title as they beat the Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets on Sunday. His knock included three fours and a six.
Faf du Plessis got back in the runs following his golden duck in Wednesday’s eliminator, scoring 25 off 27 deliveries as his team went down to Rajasthan by seven wickets in Friday’s qualifier.
In England, Sunday’s T20 Blast match between Somerset and Essex featured a slew of SA talent. Fast bowler Marchant de Lange took 4-9 in three overs for Somerset before Roussouw followed his 81 earlier in the week with 67 off 29 balls in a six-wicket win. Essex captain Simon Harmer made a duck with the bat, but fired with the ball (2-22 in four overs).
George Linde produced a well-rounded performance for Kent despite their loss to Sussex on Sunday. The 30-year-old scored 38 off 13 balls and picked up a wicket.
A lesser-known South African abroad, Leus du Plooy, scored an unbeaten 38 for Derbyshire in their 70-run victory over Leicestershire on Saturday.
