• Saffas Abroad: Injury douses Faf’s fire

    Faf du Plessis was the standout South African in the early rounds of the Caribbean Premier League before being ruled out of the rest of the tournament.

    In the tournament’s second match, Du Plessis struck 46 off 32 deliveries (four fours, two sixes) for the St Lucia Kings in their 54-run win win over the Barbados Royals.

    On Friday, captain and former Proteas spinner Imran Tahir was among the wickets for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in their 65-run thrashing of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, taking 2-35.

    On Saturday, Du Plessis continued where he left off, top-scoring for St Lucia with 57 off 36 deliveries (eight fours, one six) in their 54-run win over the Trinbago Knight Riders. But the former Proteas skipper will miss the rest of the competition after undergoing surgery for a long-standing tennis-elbow injury.

    On Sunday, Durban-born Corbin Bosch produced an all-round performance for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in their six-wicket loss to the Barbados Royals, scoring 38* off only 12 balls (four fours, three sixes) before picking up a wicket.

    In the day’s other game, Jamaica Tallawahs off-spinner Chris Green, also born in Durban, returned figures of 2-28 in their 34-run loss to Guyana, whose all-rounder, Dwaine Pretorius, picked up two wickets for 35 runs.

    Bosch was raring to go again on Monday, scoring 30 off 21 deliveries (three fours, one six) before claiming figures of 3-22 for St Kitts who ultimately went down to Trinbago by six wickets.

    The Hundred

    Heinrich Klaasen scorched an unbeaten 46 off 24 balls (one four, four sixes) for the Oval Invincibles in their two-run win over the London Spirit.

    The Manchester Originals’ Durban-born Calvin Harrison tore through the Northern Superchargers’ batting lineup, claiming impressive figures of 5-11 to lead his side to a comprehensive 81-run victory.

    Stephen Eskinazi led the Welsh Fire to an eight-wicket victory over the Northern Superchargers on Tuesday, top scoring for his side with 58 off 28 deliveries (five fours, three sixes), before Colin Ackermann notched a handy 24* off 21 balls (four fours) for the Southern Brave in their six-wicket victory over the Manchester Originals on Wednesday.

    The competition ended with a 14-run victory for the Oval Invincibles against the Manchester Originals in Sunday’s final.
