A second convincing victory on Tuesday evening meant that the Proteas women took a 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against Ireland.
Ireland won the toss in Solihull and chose to field for the second time in a day. They looked like they would make amends for their earlier defeat when they removed the two openers for zero and four, respectively. However, the early wickets brought Trisha Chetty and Mignon du Preez to the crease. They put on 103 runs together, the third highest partnership for South Africa in the format.
Chetty scored 53 off 47 balls, while Du Preez top-scored with 69 off just 42 deliveries. The skipper’s career-best score helped her side reach an imposing 161-5 in the allotted 20 overs.
In reply, the hosts lost three quick wickets. The early inroads ended the match as a contest and the only question was how much the margin of victory would be. The answer was 46 runs, as Ireland reached 115-8.
Ayabonga Khaka and Sune Luus were the bowlers that did the damage. They claimed figures of 4-23 and 4-21, respectively.
