South Africa finished the U19 World Cup in Bangladesh with a 138-run victory over New Zealand in their 11th place play-off on Friday.
It brings to an end a disappointing tournament for the defending champions who lost two of their three group matches and failed to reach the play-offs.
There were sent in to bat first on Friday and despite losing Kyle Verreynne for a duck in the first over, they managed to reach 288-6 thanks largely to Dean Foxcroft’s knock of 117 off 137 deliveries. Rilvaldo Moonsamy (51) and Wandile Makwetu (50 not out) batted well down the order.
All-rounder Wiaan Mulder who has bowled well all tournament, took 4-14 in 7.4 overs to help his team bowl New Zealand out for 150 in 38.4 overs for a big win.
Only four New Zealand batsmen made double figures.
